When you’re one of four sons it stand to reason that you’d want to do something to stand out, so Thomas gets comes by that talent naturally. When your brothers all have some musical inclinations too you start to pick up certain traits early…like ‘strumming’ on your mom’s pots’n pans before getting your first toy guitar at age four. When your grandparents provided you with an authentic ‘cowboy outfit’ at six, sure…you turn to country music. And now, all these years later (he just turned 40 in May) Thomas is still Thomas, still holding that guitar and playing country (even though “Wild, Wild Ride” may strike you as a little ‘off the beaten path’). The cowboy outfit may have gone by the wayside for now…I could never picture Thomas in a cowboy hat, for some reason…but the singer-songwriter with the unmistakable voice is still touring the country, having his hits played across the country and packing them in wherever he goes. I’d say he stands apart pretty well, wouldn’t you?
When Thomas was ten he began performing with his family’s band and at thirteen he began the late night forays into bars to perform (like many young artists do, it’s not that unusual). And when he stepped out as the front man of the band ‘Thomas Wade & Wayward’ he more than exhibited the skill he’d learned in the years between. The debut CD by this band sent many hits to radio (“Zero To Sixty”, “Lying Here With You” and more) and many videos to CMT, giving the world their first glimpse of Thomas’s ‘crazy side’. When this association came to an end a few years ago Thomas hesitated about carrying on alone but a passion you’ve felt since the pots’n pans days can’t be denied.
Some changes later (Thomas signed with Shoreline Records as a solo artist) he’d produced and written or co-written the songs for his first solo project – “Lucky 13”. And as he’ll tell you himself, it’s been a “Wild, Wild Ride” since the first song hit the airwaves. Who hasn’t heard (or watched) the songs “Some Guys”, “Running Away With You” or “If You Ain’t Got It” in the last few months? All are unmistakably Thomas Wade. And now Thomas has turned his attention to the ‘newcomers’ to the industry, ready to co-write, co-produce, produce or sing background for many new artists to give them a boost in what can be a very uncertain business. Giving something back, that’s also a Thomas Wade trait and one you’ll see if you ever get to see him perform. When you take the time to see him he’ll give you everything he’s got…”That’s What Love Does”.![]()

We have been lucky enough to have ‘run into’ Thomas Wade many times on our travels during our ‘covering’ the many country music events in Ontario and we have many of the same friends and acquaintances. And one thing I can honestly tell you is, always expect the unexpected when it comes to Thomas. He is completely unpredictable when he’s on the loose, spotted crawling across the stage ‘cat-like’ at a benefit to rub against the legs of the Lace trio, who were in the middle of their set. And he is very predictable when he’s on stage, always giving his all, sounding amazing and providing one heck of a show. He is incredibly creative, being not only a songwriter but also a producer for many up & coming artists. I also feel he is unbelievably under-rated by the conventional media when it comes to his potential and the contributions he’s made to the music industry. But then, that’s a feeling I’ve had about many of Thomas’s contemporaries too. He is capable of an intense focus when the need arises and he’s capable of total madcap behavior a few minutes later, and that’s regardless of where he is or what’s going on around him. All in all, I’d say the best way to describe Thomas would be ‘creative genius’…and they say all geniuses are a little madcap at times, aren’t they?
Thomas has proven time and again that he is a survivor. He’s been on the receiving end of ‘bad luck’ more than a few times, breaking with both his former band mates and his former wife at the same time. He’s considered packing in his musical side but, luckily for us, decided to make a go as a solo act (and succeeded admirably). Now, he is the creator and performer of many top country tunes being played right now on any country station in your area.
Thomas has one of those ‘can’t believe how good he sounds’ voices that impresses me every time I hear it and I love the songs from his new CD, “Lucky 13”. How could you not like a song that has a guy saying how “If you ain’t got it, I don’t need it” in this world of “don’t-like-my-nose/teeth/figure/hair” insecurities. Here’s a man saying ‘what you have is what makes me happy’…and in “Some Guys” he’s saying ‘I know I’m lucky to have you, what do I have to justify us to my friends for?’ Is he a doll or what?
As I mentioned earlier, Thomas does have a little bit of a wild side. Evidence of this was his ‘support’ at his buddy Jamie Warren’s Birthday Bash concert that took place in April. Thomas appeared to sing a sultry, whispered version of “Happy Birthday” (a la Marilyn Monroe) to Jamie in the middle of the show. He made another appearance on stage to dance around Jamie and spray him liberally with a Silly-String-like spray…leaving behind a very decorated birthday boy. You never know what he’ll be up to next and that’s the truth. But you always know one thing – it’s never a dull time if Thomas shows up. If you have any doubt just look again at the photo at the top of this profile…is that the face of a wallflower? Not on your life!
